Preparing for Bariatric Surgery

We make sure that our patients at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare understand the benefits and risks associated with bariatric surgery. In our bariatric surgery program patients go through multiple preparation steps before surgery, starting with a referral to a bariatric information session and including completing a weight management program.

Bariatric surgery and recovery

Bariatric surgery at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare can be a life-changing remedy for obesity. The procedures will empower patients to change their lifestyle so they can maintain their weight loss. For the first 6 to 12 months after the procedure it is vital to adapt to a diet that will help maintaining the weight loss and adopting a pattern of exercise to further support the benefits of surgery. Gastric bypass

A portion of the small bowel is bypassed in order to decrease the volume of food absorbed by the body and includes isolating a large portion of the stomach, decreasing the volume of food the patient is able to eat.

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

A large portion of the stomach is surgically removed, restricting the volume of food the patient is able to eat.

Quick Recovery After Surgery

99% of our procedures are performed via laparoscopic or keyhole surgery. This means that our patients experience minimal pain and will be discharged quickly from the hospital. Patients should be able to return to work or other activities within 7 to 10 days.

Personalized Weight Management Plan

Weight management is a personal journey that begins with a tailored program designed to help patients develop the behaviors supporting a healthy lifestyle.

Starting with a consultation appointment, an Obesity Case Manager will work with the patient to develop a personalized lifestyle, education, and behavior modification plan. The patient works with a multidisciplinary care team for four to six months to implement the plan, during which a surgical pathway may be developed.
