First Epic Go Live in Saudi Arabia

The mood was both celebratory and anticipatory. At 7 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018, with the push of a button, Epic became the electronic health record that empowers fully integrated care and enables patients to become actively engaged in their health.

In that moment, JHAH joined the likes of Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Dubai Health Authority in using one of the most sophisticated health record systems in the world. It was also at that moment that patients being served by JHAH were able to access data in their healthcare records online, anywhere, anytime using the Epic MyChart tool.

The holistic Epic solution is comprised of multiple applications covering every aspect of hospital operations, as a result it eliminates disparate systems and the mix of paper and electronic patient records. Epic provides care givers with a single real-time, up to date patient record that is supported by decision making tools such as alerts, pathways and search functionality.

The successful Go Live of Epic at JHAH was the result of a monumental effort. Teams had been formed, experts brought in, processes mapped and input from all areas obtained. Models had been developed, tested, tweaked and trained on until everyone was ready and all was in place. Then and only then, that simple, symbolic act of pushing the button was possible.

Daniele Rigamonti,M.D. This is a landmark step toward achieving our vision, which is to be a regional leader in clinical outcomes and the advancement of health professions and marks a new era in healthcare at JHAH.
