Carmel Smyth, (Acting) Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Carmel began her career at Belfast City Hospital, Northern Ireland, training initially as a nurse then a midwife. Over the course of her nearly four decade nursing career, Carmel has held a progression of nursing positions including Staff Nurse, Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, Senior Supervisor in OB/GYN, Nursing Quality Improvement/JCI Coordinator, and most recently, Director of the Nursing & Clinical Support Services Division at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH). Notably, Carmel’s career at JHAH (formerly Saudi Aramco Medical Services Organization) spans over thirty years.

Carmel holds a number of degrees, licenses and certifications. She is a registered nurse and in 2011 became certified by the American College of Physician Executives. Prior to that she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Studies and DipHE in Midwifery.
