Paula Kent DrPH, MSN, MBA, RN, CPPS is a Patient Safety Specialist for the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. She also holds roles as adjunct faculty for Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, OPAL co-Director for the MAS program at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and associate faculty for Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Paula has worked in Patient Safety for close to 20 years and is passionate about patient safety improvement. Her primary areas of focus in patient safety include Patient Safety and Quality, Safety Culture, CUSP, and TeamSTEPPS, and she has presented widely on these topics. She has been privileged to work with teams in the US and internationally in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Brazil and Vietnam. In more recent years, she has implemented safety programs in LMIC settings such as Uganda, Ethiopia and Nigeria focusing on improvements in patient safety, teamwork, and communication.
She has a Doctor of Public Health, a Master's of Nursing and an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and has a certificate in Patient Safety from IHI. She has worked in Patient Safety for more than 10 years and has an interest in measurement and monitoring of the performance of health care organizations to improve the culture of safety and delivery of safe patient care.
