Pharmacy Residency Program

The Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) R1 and R2 Pharmacy Residency Program builds upon the foundation of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) education. This program is designed to develop highly skilled clinical pharmacists who are prepared for board certification and further specialized pharmacy residency training (R3).

This program aims to enhance knowledge, clinical skills, and professional practice in a dynamic environment that fosters growth, learning, and integrity.

Program Goals

1. Comprehensive Training Experience: The program provides a two-year, full-time training experience that meets Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) requirements, integrates evidence-based guidelines, and aligns with residents’ interests and prior experience.

2. Clinical Excellence: The program equips residents to become independent clinical pharmacists, honing their clinical skills and expanding their knowledge to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research, education, and administration.

3. Leadership Development: The program focuses on cultivating leadership abilities in residents, preparing them as future leaders in clinical pharmacy.

Program Rotations and Special Features

The PGY-1 JHAH Pharmacy Residency Program offers a tailored two-year training schedule, personalized to meet each resident’s unique learning needs and career goals.

First Residency Cycle

Residents will gain clinical experience in areas including:

• Administration rotation
• Ambulatory Care
• Drug information rotation
• Internal medicine
• Introduction to clinical rotation
• Inpatient pharmacy
• Intravenous admixture pharmacy
• Medication safety/ Automation rotation

Second Residency Cycle

In the second year, residents will deepen their expertise in:

• Cardiology
• Critical Care
• Hematology/Oncology
• Infectious Diseases
• Internal medicine
• Psychiatry

Throughout the 24-month program, pharmacy residents actively engage in medication management reviews using state-of-the-art automation technologies and electronic health records. Additionally, residents will participate in:

• Antimicrobial Stewardship Activities
• Community Service within Patient-Centered Programs
• Departmental In-services and Presentations
• Drug and Therapeutics Committee-related Reviews
• IRB-Approved Residency Research Projects
• Preceptorship of Pharmacy Students and Interns
