Regular Screenings Can Catch Cancer Early and That is Important!

Regular health screenings are an easy way to protect you and your loved ones from some types of cancer.

Benefits of Regular Screenings

Peace of mind

If a screening comes back clear or if something is found but additional testing confirms it is benign (not cancerous), you and your family can relax and continue your regular healthy habits of:

  • Eating healthy
  • Exercising regularly
  • Sleeping adequately
  • Taking care of yourselves & each other

Better quality of life

Early detection and treatment can prevent the cancer from spreading, which gives you a better chance to live a long, productive and happy life.

Better chance of survival

If cancer is found, it can be treated at an early stage, when your chances to beat it are higher.

Less aggressive treatment

Treating early-stage cancer can also mean less aggressive treatment, which provides:

  • Less disruption to your life
  • Faster recovery
  • Fewer side effects

Cancer Stages

Cancer is classified into stages. The stages are used to determine treatment and to predict outcomes.

  • Stage 0: Cancer is in situ, meaning it is localized and has not spread. It is often highly treatable.
  • Stage I: Cancer is small and localized to one area. It has not spread to lymph nodes or other tissues.
  • Stage II: Cancer is larger or has spread to nearby tissues or lymph nodes but not to distant parts of the body.
  • Stage III: Cancer has spread to more lymph nodes or surrounding tissues but not to distant organs.
  • Stage IV: Cancer has metastasized, meaning it has spread to distant organs and tissues.

How Cancer Stage Affects Treatment and Survival

Survival rates vary significantly by stage, highlighting the importance of early detection:

Five-year Survival Rate

  • Stage 0: Nearly 100% for many cancers
  • Stage I: Approximately 90-100%, depending on the cancer type
  • Stage II: Around 70-90%
  • Stage III: Approximately 50-70%
  • Stage IV: Survival rates drop significantly, often below 30%, highlighting the need for early detection
