For more than eleven years, the Dhahran-Aramco Girl Scout Troop 22 has supported cancer patients, particularly children, and their families. This year they saw an opportunity and took it as their own. During COVID, the children’s play area in Oncology was closed, so the Dhahran girl scouts decided to refurnish and refresh it, including painting a beautiful and uplifting mural to display on the wall.
A small recognition ceremony was held to recognize the girl scout troop for supporting oncology staff and patients.
“The girls enthusiastically put in hours of their time shopping for and assembling furniture as well as creating the masterpiece for the wall,” said Savera Arain, Manager, Compounding Pharmacy Service. “Their dedication and creativity in bringing joy and comfort to the young patients is truly commendable.”
In addition to bringing the waiting area back to life in a colorful way, the girls made gift baskets that included coloring books, stickers and bracelets to brighten the days of the young patients.
“Everyone in JHAH Oncology is proud of the positive impact the girl scouts have made on the lives of children with cancer,” says Dr. Nafisah Al-Faris, Chief, Oncology Division. “I am also extremely proud of my team for supporting this wonderful effort. I’d like to give a special thanks to Shanty Mathew, Infection Control; Hameeda Basha, Advance Nurse Clinician; and Fatima Rashed, Nurse Manager, Oncology for working so closely and enthusiastically with the girls.”
