Rehabilitation Services

What are rehabilitation services?

After an injury or illness, your priority will be getting back to ‘normal’ life as quickly as possible – and we are here to help you. We offer a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) Health Centers in Abqaiq, Al-Hasa, Dhahran, Ras Tanura and ‘Udhailiyah. These are designed to boost your physical, emotional and psychological recovery.

Whether you require short-term or long-term care, we will work alongside you and your loved ones to deliver a personalized program that inspires hope, promotes independence and ultimately enhances your quality of life.

Rehabilitation treatments, services and procedures

If you have a heart disease, our team of cardiac rehabilitation specialists can help you return to your optimum fitness and mobility and will support you and your family in dealing with the physical and psychological effects of your condition.

Phases of the cardiac rehabilitation program at JHAH

Phase I (Inpatient phase): During hospitalization, you will undergo a full assessment and receive advice about recommended timing for the safe return to normal daily activities, lifestyle modifications, and safe exercises.

Phase II (Outpatient phase): You will undergo a monitored and supervised exercise training program with continuous education and counseling toward activities and risk factors modifications. During the exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation, your heart rate/rhythm and blood pressure will be monitored during exercise to keep them within the required target range and ensure your safety.

Our occupational therapists take a holistic approach to rehabilitation, concentrating on both your physical and psychosocial wellbeing. Using cutting-edge techniques – many of which are unavailable at other hospitals in the region – we provide highly effective treatment for diagnoses, including hand and wrist arthritis, cancer, burns, and neurological conditions.

If you are using orthotics – such as braces, splints or insoles – or have prosthetic limbs, you will know that they come with their own unique set of challenges. Our highly trained clinicians offer the best possible treatment. Following an initial assessment (when we may take your measurements and/or perform a casting/digital imaging), we will provide you with a comfortable, functional device that meets your specific needs. Follow-up appointments will provide advice on device maintenance and body-strengthening exercises, and give you the chance to replace or adjust your device if necessary.

Our tailored physical therapy will help you achieve your full potential through state-of-the-art technology, exercise and advice. Our expert therapists have years of experience treating a wide range of conditions, including: back, neck and shoulder pain; arthritis; whiplash; Guillain-Barré syndrome; multiple sclerosis; Parkinson’s disease; traumatic injuries; and strokes.

Left untreated, speech-language problems can affect your confidence and hinder your progression. Whether you or your loved one has been diagnosed with autism, a cleft lip/palate, a swallowing disorder or a stutter, our experts will work with you – either one-on-one or via friendly group-therapy sessions – to help you overcome any difficulties.

Our specialized services include:

  • Lee Silverman voice treatment, for adults with Parkinson’s disease
  • VitalStim therapy, for the treatment of swallowing disorders
  • The assessment and treatment of adult neurogenic language disorders following cerebral vascular events
  • The Lidcombe Program, for the treatment of stuttering in pre-school children

Once you have received a speech-language pathology referral from your Primary Care physician, please arrange an evaluation by calling 013 870 6094. This initial meeting should be attended by both the person receiving treatment and a parent or caregiver. For pediatric speech and language evaluations, we request that your child completes an audiology assessment beforehand, to rule out any difficulties with hearing.

What to expect from rehabilitation services

Unless otherwise stated, your rehabilitation journey is likely to begin with a referral from your Primary Care physician or specialist doctor. After you have made an appointment with your local Rehabilitation Clinic, you will undergo a thorough assessment, during which we will review your medical history, take down any measurements that might be necessary, and discuss your personal goals.

Following this evaluation, we will share a rehabilitation plan with you that is tailored to meet your specific needs.

Our patients say it best

I am so happy with my granddaughter’s speech and language improvement. At school, she is able to communicate just as well as her classmates, and she can confidently play with her friends without any difficulties.

Last year, I started getting severe pain in my left foot. My doctor diagnosed plantar fasciitis and referred me to JHAH’s orthotics and prosthetics team for further help. After examining the affected area, your therapists fitted me with some shoe inserts and suggested some exercises that would help. The results were immediate and dramatic – I can now walk for 10km without suffering any discomfort!
