Congratulations to our Oncology Nursing Coordinators Team and our Nursing Shifts Coordinators Team for jointly winning a DAISY Award for outstanding commitment to patient care!
The Oncology Nursing Coordinators Team was praised for an “Emmy-worthy” performance in 2024 that saw them “tirelessly working behind the scenes to ensure the seamless care and management of oncology patients.”
Whether they are going through hematology, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or palliative care, every oncology patient at JHAH is supported by a dedicated nurse coordinator. This bespoke approach means that each patient receives personalized care throughout their journey.
“What truly sets our team apart is their unwavering dedication to patient wellbeing,” one of the awards citations said. “Despite the staggering number of patients they handle, each individual receives the same level of care and compassion that defines our institution's ethos. In a landscape where accolades are often reserved for the extraordinary, it's time to shine a spotlight on the everyday heroes who walk among us.”
Another citation recounted a case in which a young woman with young children presented with a rapidly enlarging neck mass. “What amazed me is the human touch of the coordinator team and the continuous assurance and encouragement to the patient and her family that they will be taken care of,” the citation said, adding that the team “injected courage and belief” into the young woman that she would beat cancer.
Working on the Nursing Shift Coordinators Team was described in another citation as “the toughest role in the nursing department,” requiring multitasking, attention to detail, precise execution, and patience to ensure that patients, visitors, and clinicians are supported at all times.
The team was praised for its “passion, care, and empathic attitude,” with team members sometimes foregoing breaks to ensure the smooth running of the hospital’s nursing service. Team leader Jamil Ammar was commended for proactively seeking opportunities to improve teamwork and collaboration, and enhance patient care.
The DAISY Team Award is presented annually to a nurse-led team that has gone above and beyond to support and care for patients and their families. The DAISY awards scheme is administered by the DAISY Foundation, which works with more than 6,500 healthcare organizations worldwide.
The DAISY Team Award for 2024 was presented by Hani Ayyad, Chief Nurse at JHAH, at a ceremony on December 25.
